After the success of their first book “The Pompey Boys” John Payne and Roy
Charles have collaborated to produce “The Park” a comprehensive insight into
Fratton Park the home of Portsmouth Football Club. This book looks at the
stadium’s 107-year history and through a collection of over 300 colour
photographs will take you on a journey
in and around the ground and to the places fans would not normally have
access to.
As old football grounds change forever and new stadiums are built, “The
Park” will stand as a record of how they once were.
To complement the book, you receive a free DVD entitled “Fratton Memories.”
This is a unique hour-long film made by Pompey fans Bob Haines and Rob
Nettleton. They interview former Portsmouth players such as Len Phillips,
Jack Mansell and a fan who saw his first Pompey game in 1928 John Jenkins.
They tell us not only of their memories but also their funny stories of
Fratton Park over the last seven decades.
Together the book and DVD make a complete guide to one of England’s most
famous stadiums, it will not only be enjoyed by Portsmouth fans but by
football traditionalists around the country.
